Happy Friday

Friday. Friday, Friday, Friday. It’s “Fredag” in most Scandinavian countries, which means “Freya’s day.” Yes, that Freya.

In addition to its Norse epic origins, it’s considered unlucky in the sailing world to start a voyage on a Friday. Sailors and mariners used to call it “Dies Infaustus,” which means “unlucky day.” It’s a miracle people even leave the house on Fridays.

But I’m one of those people who celebrates Friday as a chance to crank out some work, get everything in order, and then peace out for the weekend.

Friday is also a weirdly underrepresented song in music. There’s The Cure’s “Friday I’m In Love,” which you either like or you don’t, and not much else. Nicki Minaj’s “Pink Friday” record comes to mind, too. But there is, of course, one song that celebrates the spirit of the day.

Happy Friday, everyone. Here’s a metal cover of Rebecca Black’s song “Friday” to get you going for the weekend. Enjoy!
