It’s the most wonderful time of the year.
I love the holiday season. I can dig Thanksgiving, but Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Festivus, what-have-you, is really my jam. My family is steeped in holiday tradition – every Christmas Eve we carol at a home for the elderly, sing 12 Days of Christmas at the dinner table – divided by birth month of course, and always, always have chocolate cookie pudding on the table for dessert. And that’s just skimming the surface.
But of all the traditions, my favorite is baking and decorating holiday cookies. I devote an entire day to my extravaganza – baking dozens of cookies, neatly packaging them in the season’s tin, and shipping them off to family and friends across the country. Seeing as today is National Cookie Day, what better way to celebrate this unofficial holiday than with a list of holiday cookie recipes? Following are a few recipe suggestions — some have been taste-tested, others will be soon. So get out the mixer, put on your apron, and start baking!
