Using Social Media to Follow Up the Traditional Media

It was an exciting morning on Wednesday, as one of our clients, Marvin Windows and Doors, had their newest window featured in a segment on NBC’s TODAY Show. The topic was universal design: adapting homes to the changing needs of older Americans.

Marvin’s Ultimate Casement window was one of the products mentioned. This unique window swivels about 140 degrees so you can wash the outside of the window from inside your house. No more climbing ladders — an activity that sent more than 220,00 Americans to the emergency room last year.

TODAY co-host Billy Bush pronounced it “very strong.”

Naturally, we wanted to get the video in front of people who might find it useful. We had a plan ready to go out to the social media world. It included posting the video on several key social-media sites, including Marvin’s profile page at Facebook, as well as Friendfeed. We also posted it on del.icio.us and in the social media room on Marvin’s Web site.

It was a great exercise in building on exposure in the traditional media.
