The Modern Way To WorkDecember 22, 2015

I am an extrovert. I get my energy from working with others. I am a collaborator who gets a high from building together. Creating together. Shaping ideas together.
People are why I work.
So when I read a recent article in Mashable, I gasped. They declared that by 2030, professionals would work mostly from home using super-fast data terminals.
The thinking was that 77 percent of millennials believe in flexible work hours, so as the millennial generation becomes the majority, we can expect flex time and telecommuting to become a common workplace practice.
Now, don’t get me wrong. I am progressive. I am open-minded and want to celebrate what makes each individual tick. This thinking is what attracted me to Fast Horse.
We have built a modern workspace. It’s an open environment with encouragement to sit somewhere different every day and an expectation that you will deliver exceptional work from wherever you choose to get it done.
And as a mom of a little boy, with another one on the way, I am all for work/life balance — because, let’s be honest, it’s all life. And I am in support of continuing education and productivity.
But the idea of a disappearing “corporate office” makes me blue.
Advertising, PR and marketing attract a certain breed of individual. My favorite kind of person. And I like to be around these people. I learn from my co-workers and together we build amazingness.
So my holiday wish, as we head into a New Year, is that we embrace the power of human connections. It’s what makes life oh-so-sweet.
