Small Business Revolution In The Halls Of Congress: Does This Count As Influencer Marketing?

As my friends on the Deluxe team are criss-crossing the country this month to select the finalists for Season 4 of the Small Business Revolution – Main Street, I can’t help but reminisce about how much fun this program has been for everyone involved.

Traveling the country, seeing these great communities rally to the cause, and meeting countless wonderful people is a fantastic way to spend a working day. But some of my favorite memories come from all of the campaigning the towns do to drum up votes. We’ve seen more musicians and athletes and celebrities join the conversation than I can even remember. Wilco rallying votes for the town of North Adams, Massachusetts, for example, was fun to see.

But for me, one of most fun and most rewarding moments actually happened twice: elected officials speaking about the Small Business Revolution, rallying votes for towns in their districts, on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives.

In 2017, Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania spoke about the virtues of lovely Bristol Borough.

And in 2018, Rep. Mike Bost of Illinois did the same for wonderful Alton.

Perhaps it’s a coincidence, or perhaps it’s influence, but both of those towns ended up winning. And for me, those moments — seeing a client’s project, something countless colleagues and I had worked on tirelessly for years, celebrated in the halls of Congress— was truly amazing.
