I like to believe that everyone is as affected as I am by a great song or piece of music. I’m certain that any day, any situation, any mood can be changed for the better (or worse) by what you stumble across while scanning your iPod or the good old FM radio.
Recently, as I’ve taken my new job at Fast Horse and have been commuting into the city with a 25- to 30-minute drive each morning, I’ve found myself searching for songs each morning to pump myself up, get me excited about the day or simply bring me peace on my morning drive. Which leads me to a question weighing heavy on my heart as of late. Where, oh where, are the songs to get people excited about Mondays?
Mondays have this certain connotation to them. We’ve all heard “I’ve got a case of the Mondays,” which is the opposite of the excitement that Friday’s “TGIF” brings. We find any reason to blame anything bad that happens on the simple fact that it is, indeed, Monday once again.
We’ve got Exhibit A:
Or this blast from the past:
And then one of my personal favorites, just because it’s so darn beautiful, but still:
Sure, we’ve got our Sunday Fun Days, our Throwback Thursdays, our Thank God It’s Friday’s, but why can’t we start looking at Mondays as a fresh start, a new beginning, an opportunity seize the week by starting now?
Still, some of the songs devoted to other days of the week do give me a smile, or maybe it’s more of a laugh (attack):
Either way, we’ve got to do what we can to start looking forward to Mondays as we do other days of the week. After all, they’re always going to be here, kicking off our week.
I’ll leave you with this, as a little token of happiness and hope for every day of the week.
