BlogHer released its 2009 Women in Social Media Study. According to the study:
- 42 million women do some sort of social media activity weekly such as blogging, reading blogs, posting to message boards or visiting social networks
- Women who use social media turn to blogs (55 percent) and social networks (75 percent) as primary sources of community interaction, entertainment and information.
- 76 percent of women in the BlogHer network blog for fun while only 17 percent do it to earn money
- Women who use social media are significantly more likely to make a purchase decision based on customer experiences reported on blogs
Also according to the study, the top five topics of interest to women who read blogs or post comments to blog are:
- Personal (life, family)
