Taking The Small Business Revolution To Main Street

When I last wrote about our friends at Deluxe, we had just premiered a documentary film and surprised a small-business owner with a $25,000 check. Good times!

Turns out, this Small Business Revolution project we’ve been working on for the better part of two years has never had more momentum and energy behind it than it does now. We kicked off the second year of the project in January with a call for nominations for great small towns that could use a boost — specifically, a $500,000 boost and support from Deluxe and our partner, Shark Tank’s Robert Herjavec.

We received nearly 10,000 nominations, and two stand-outs rose to the top. Last week — National Small Business Week! — we announced the pair of finalists, thew open the doors on a brand new website, and kicked off a week-long voting process to let the public choose the winner. Here’s a quick 30-second overview of the project:

To say that the announcement was a success would be a dramatic understatement. The announcement was made on Tuesday morning, starting with a Manhattan media tour and interviews with CNBC, ABC News, Fox Business, Entrepreneur Magazine, and two dozen more outlets. The website set a new single-day traffic record on Tuesday, and again on Wednesday, and again on Thursday — crushing our previous bests, which were still pretty impressive! And the votes just keep pouring in. I see multiple news votes literally every time I refresh the counter. They just don’t stop!
