Time For Some Good Old Escapism During The Holidays

GravityAs the year comes to a wrap, we’ve all got to-do lists a mile long, things we wish we would have accomplished and hopes for the year ahead. The holidays bring about (we hope) some great downtime to cozy up and catch up on the great films that have been created for us as viewers this past year.

The reason I find entertainment through motion pictures to be so treasured and celebrated by people is simple: People want to escape reality or they want to cling to it .. they want to remember something, the way they once felt, or they want to forget it for a bit. We want to laugh, to cry, to hope, to dream. We want to meet other people through films, and be told their stories.

We want to relate. We want to feel not-so-alone, or be alone for a little while. We want to know that we’re not the only ones going through something hard, or something fantastic. We want to feel small in a great, big world, and we want to feel like a ‘somebody’ in a small, familiar world.

Below is a list of titles and trailers you can resort back to over the holidays to catch some of the masterly-crafted films that will be much-talked about come Sunday, March 2, 2014 – The Oscars. Get familiarized so you can be a part of the buzz-worthy conversation.

1. “Gravity”

2. “12 Years a Slave”

3. “American Hustle”

4. “The Great Gatsby”

5. “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire”

6. “Frozen”

7. “The Butler”

8. “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues”

9. “Her”

10. “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug”

Happy cozy time and happy holidays!
