The Short And SweeTango Season Has Arrived

SweeTangoLast week Fast Horse kicked off the Short & SweeTango season, a program we developed to celebrate the tastiest time of the year – SweeTango time!

If you haven’t tried a SweeTango, get to your local grocer stat. SweeTango, bred at the University of Minnesota, is a cross between the Honeycrisp and Zestar! varieties.

The apple features crisp citrus notes and a lively touch of spice that complement a sweet honey finish. Grown in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Washington State, New York State and Nova Scotia, Canada. The season is in full swing and will wrap up in late October or early November.

Because this is a foodie apple, we teamed up with the renowned chefs from L.A.’s Animal, Jon Shook and Vinny Dotolo. The guys are behind some of the most successful spots in L.A. and are on the who’s who of the national food scene.

They developed some exclusive recipes for us to share with SweeTango fans and we invited food bloggers and media from in and around the LA area to a private tasting to sample the recipes and learn more about the apple. The chefs masterly prepared each dish, paired with a wine or beer creating one tasty experience.

Since you all couldn’t make it to the private tasting, I thought I would share some of the photos and recipes from the event. If I were to pick a favorite, it would be the Sweet Potato and SweeTango soup. It’s simply perfect. The same could be said for the SweeTango apple – perfection. Try it and let me know if you agree.

And if you’re due for a trip to L.A., check out our Short and SweeTango sweepstakes. You can enter to win a free trip for two to L.A. to dine at Animal.
