Promoting The Minnesota Beatle Project? Just Another “Day In The Life” At Fast HorseDecember 3, 2012
By Dave Fransen, VP Account Services
For the third consecutive year, Fast Horse has had the privilege of working with local non-profit Vega Productions to promote and publicize the latest Minnesota Beatle Project, an album featuring Beatles cover songs recorded by bands and artists with ties to Minnesota.
Vol. 4 drops Dec. 4 and you can buy the CD at Target and local independent record shops like Electric Fetus. It’s also available online at Target.com, iTunes and Amazon.
The album cover is one of the noteworthy elements of this year’s compilation. It was designed by Gregory Euclide, who co-created the album artwork for Bon Iver’s self-titled, Grammy-winning 2011 album. In addition to digital formats, MBP also is available in a limited-edition white vinyl record album. For the kids out there, that means you’ll need a turntable to listen to it.
If you’re not a Beatles fan, don’t let that prevent you from picking up a copy. Minnesota Beatle Project supports a great cause: Each year, all the proceeds from sales of the album and digital downloads help support music education in Minnesota public schools.
If you’re a local (Minnesota) music fan, you should DEFINITELY buy the album. Every year features some of the best musicians from the local scene. This year’s edition boasts performances from DeVotchKa, Haley Bonar, Trampled By Turtles, Caroline Smith & The Goodnight Sleeps and Astronautalis. (see full list below)
If you’re a Beatles fan, fear not. Each volume of Minnesota Beatle Project plays host to some of the band’s most popular songs as well as some of their deepest tracks. This year’s lineup includes songs like “Mean Mr. Mustard,” “Back In The U.S.S.R.,” “Baby You’re a Rich Man” and “For The Benefit of Being Mr. Kite.”
The disk is already getting some terrific raves. Most recently, the Minneapolis Star Tribune included the disk as one of its “Five Faves of the Moment” on Sunday, saying, “it should be no surprise that ‘Minnesota Beatle Project, Vol. 4’ is another winner.”
As part of our efforts to drive sales for Volume 4, we’ve been catching up with a few of the featured artists to get their take on the songs they recorded and why the project is so important.
Check out a really fun teaser/trailer video developed to build anticipation for the record…it was concepted, shot and edited by our own Evan Taylor.
Most important, remember to grab the album for anybody who loves music – it’s the perfect stocking stuffer idea. If you keep an eye on the Fast Horse Twitter feed today, you might just get a chance to win a copy, too.
