Minus 18 And Counting

A photo from Fast Horse's most recent visit to Warroad

Working with Marvin Windows and Doors, I’ve upped my knowledge on double hung windows, the energy efficiency benefits of tripane and the benefits of clad-wood instead of vinyl.

Now, thanks to Marvin, I’m taking my education on a tour. This morning, we’re departing at the crisp hour of 7 a.m. to tour their two-million-square-foot plant in Warroad.

While we missed Wednesday’s lutefisk dinner, we’re excited to arrive just in time for a cold snap. Yesterday’s weather report showed a 18 degrees below zero sunny sky.

In all sincerity, I am excited to see the plant operations. I’ve talked to builders and architects who have taken the tour and are amazed at Marvin’s facilities in a remote part of Minnesota. They’ve recounted the incredibly detailed craftsmanship that goes into each and every made-to-order window.

Marvin has been located near the Canadian border since their founding days so they know how to deal with their location and reserving resources. As an example, annually, they use more than 14,000 tons of packaging and logging waste to power the boiler, heat the plant, save energy and reduce landfill waste.

Wish me luck – I’ve packed my mukluks.
